October 29: Danshui
October 29, 2008
We arrived in Taiwan last night. Unfortunately, the internet at the hotel we are in is slow and spotty, so posting to the blog is difficult and posting photos not possible. This morning we hopped on the MRT (subway) to Danshui to meet with Josh Kling of Lakeside Church who is a student in the YWAM. SBS Bible Study program here. He is 7 months into the 9 month program. We sat in on the second 2 hours of lecture on Isaiah this morning, shared a couple of meals with Josh, took a walk along the waterfront in Danshui and saw the first church in Taiwan which was established in 1872 by a missionary who showed up with nothing more than a Bible and his kit of dental tools. This evening was spent at The Rock, a coffee shop run by YWAM which offers free English lessons, English conversation and free coffee and soda. This outreach program primarily reaches out to students at the university up the street.
We are really enjoying our time here. The Taiwanese are very happy, friendly and have a good understanding of basic English. Taiwan has a bustling night culture with street markets every night in nearly every neighborhood. There are food vendors everywhere and we’ve tried the tamer fare.
Tomorrow, we will travel to the central part of the island to visit Doug and Melody Penney, Lakeside’s share partners in Taiwan. Chris
Hi Susan and Chris
It all sounds interesting – looking forward to the pictures.
Safe travels and continued blessings
